Chimera. “f. That’s what is proposed to the imagination as possible or true, not being so”. (dle.rae.es)

Theater is the inspiration for this collection, particularly the modernization process that occurred on the stage in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Then, thanks to the Russian constructivist movement, the theater began to break with the idea of the stage as something static, with movement. The painting, the scenery, and the collaborations with different artists and disciplines marked this joint process.

The three works that set us apart were Victory over the SunThe Magnanimous Cuckold, and The Death of Talkerin, fundamental works of the Russian avant-garde that were decisive for the theater we know today. Futuristic operas that spoke of a language that was not language, where the settings and their design speak of constructivism and movement, are the result of research and reflection that culminated in a series of fabrics where movement as a product of an optical effect is the key element.

In Chimera, the experience of the fantastic, joy, and beauty through geometric shapes and colors is present in daily life and its rituals.

Re-think Bi Yuu

Bi Yuu's new stage questions the theme of social design, not only from the angle of the craftsman or designer but also that of the consumer. It is a collection that honors daily life and its rituals. Inspired by the table and the kitchen as spaces of collective love that are shared with family and friends, these are more accessible pieces in economic and space terms and maintain the same principles that have always characterized Bi Yuu. It is also about proving to ourselves that it is possible to democratize design, expand our horizons, and bring social design to an urban environment.

We work with Retoño Textil, a social reintegration project, to help ex-prison women in Mexico City. This has allowed us to explore the social issue differently and get closer to other communities with very different characteristics that have contributed to our project in the same way.

For this new collection, we use recycled PET thread and a Jacquard fabric, the execution of which has also been a challenge for our design team and the local industry. Thanks to this effort, we have developed best practices with our partners that guarantee us high-quality results.
