During the renovation of the Aeroméxico Airline Premier Lounge at Mexico City International Airport, we were commissioned to weave a textile artwork for the dining area—a piece intended to become part of the space’s living story.
The mural was conceived to enhance the space’s identity and warmth through expressive texture and color.
Mutuo is conceptually inspired by the ancient Xochimilca agricultural system, which was later refined and enriched by Mexican culture. This ancestral practice serves as the foundation of the work’s narrative.
In addition to its agricultural effectiveness, this system reflects a profound respect between people and the land. It fosters a sustainable relationship in which land and human life support each other in a continuous cycle of care and renewal.
The piece serves as a tribute to this ancestral dialogue, honoring the interconnected paths of nature and culture as they influence each other. Through textile language, the work reimagines panoramic views drawn from historical photographs, tracing the transformation of the Xochimilco landscape over time.
