Client: Ikea Project: Design collection

The ÖMSESIDIG collection was brought to life by nine Latin American creatives, each contributing their expertise in art, fashion, food, design, and architecture.

During the design process, IKEA invited us to explore the themes of celebration and sharing, embracing Latin cultural richness and considering the post-pandemic context.

We designed a picnic set that includes a cooler, a Frakta bag, a set of tea towels, and a fun outdoor blanket. Our goal was to create a collection of objects that foster reunions and celebrations in parks or patios, reconnecting with small joys like looking at the sky. Our contribution celebrates the customs and traditions of my country; for example, the cooler is designed to fit food containers and a liter of soda, as many families in Mexico need to carry.

ÖMSESIDIG:

Mutual. A reciprocal relationship is a common help between two or more parties.

Through this collection, I wanted to share with the world the relevance of multiculturalism in celebration, its ritual value, and its power in the social fabric of Mexico. I studied the Guelaguetza, its meaning, and its use as a display of fraternity and collective unity to reflect on the value of collectivity in other worldviews.

The term "Guelaguetza" refers to the act of offering mutual help between family and friends to organize private or community parties, sharing economic contributions or resources so that their loved ones or community can celebrate equally, with the moral obligation to reciprocate in the future, prioritizing collective well-being.
