Corporate Gifts Handmade in Mexico. Year: 2019

We like to look to the future without forgetting the past. The richness of our culture makes us stronger.

Sitting at a table to share a meal is fundamental to human cultural and ritual wealth. It's a pleasurable act that shows our affection for those we love. At the table, love is cooked, secrets are confessed, laughs are shared with friends, and sometimes, family problems are solved.

As in many other cases, textiles dress our rituals and showcase our origins or life philosophy. They sometimes accompany us subtly on the table and ornament the occasion during special celebrations. Therefore, we have designed, in collaboration with Hector Ouilhet, "Carlota," a unique edition table runner to remind your friends of the beauty and joy that everyday rituals bring to our lives.

Carlota's fabric was woven on a pedal loom and hand-dyed by artisan Adolfo García in Tenancingo de Doria, State of Mexico, a recognized village for its rebozos textiles.

"Rebozo is the shoulder cloth to wrap a woman's heart and extend the tenderness of her arms." - Anonymous.

Ikat is a partial dyeing of warp thread decorated before being woven into fabric. The word Ikat (mengikat) is of Malay origin and means "to tie, bind, or wrap." This process involves tightly binding predetermined sections of the warp threads with a cord to preserve the original color of the thread and protect it from dye penetration.

The final appearance of an Ikat design largely depends on the weaving.

The rebozo, the quintessential Mexican garment, was first mentioned in 1572. By the end of the 18th century, the rebozo was an indispensable feminine garment and a traditional Mexican art form.

Today, it is made throughout Mexico, with each rebozo bearing symbols such as color and interwoven threads that identify its origin, the community that uses it, or the period of its creation.
